Midsummer is celebrated on June 21st this year. It marks the longest day of the year. A popular site during Midsummer (or Litha or the Summer Solstice) is Stonehenge. The site is said to be a giant calendar and during the Summer Solstice people flock for miles around.
It is a time for coming together to mark the end of the light and the turn of the wheel towards darkness once more.
On Midsummer's Eve bonfires were lit to drive away evil spirits. Celebrations are held the world over and it is one of the biggest Pagan events of the year.
St John's Wort is associated with the day and it marks the point where the Sun enters the astrological sign Cancer.
